How To Resolve a Continuous VST Scan Loop

Last updated on 3/11/2016

SONAR X3 introduces a new Automatic Background Scanning feature for detecting newly added VST plug-ins. Depending on the plug-ins present on your system, if you have "Rescan Failed Plug-ins" and "Rescan Existing Plug-ins" enabled (under Edit > Preferences > File - VST Settings), the background scanner may repeatedly detect changes causing the scanner to continually repeat.

For this reason, it is recommended that you do not enable "Rescan Failed Plug-ins", "Rescan Existing Plug-ins" and "Automatic Background Scan" all a the same time. If you have upgraded from a previous version of SONAR, the migration wizard may have enabled all of these settings for you automatically. If this is the case on your system, you will need to manually disable the settings. We recommend leaving the background scanning on but disabling "Rescan Failed Plug-ins" and "Rescan Existing Plug-ins" since it is not typically necessary unless resetting and/or troubleshooting plug-in behavior.
