The Record Plant, Los Angeles, CA—Cakewalk, developer of the best-selling music and sound software for Windows, today announces a partnership with Berkleemusic.com, the online extension school of Berklee College of Music, to offer the first ever online music production course for college credit using the SONAR music production environment on the Windows PC.
The Desktop Music Production for the PC course is centered around the SONAR music production environment, and is the first ever online for college credit certificate program to be offered for the Windows PC. By engaging in hands-on lessons and projects, as well as feedback from fellow students and Berklee professors, the Desktop Music Production for the PC course will provide students with the skills to turn their PC into a virtual multi-track studio. Students learn to produce great-sounding master recordings ready for CD or MP3—no matter what degree of previous experience they have in desktop production.
"We are delighted to be partnering with Berklee Online on an important part of the future of music education," commented Greg Hendershott, Cakewalk's founder and CEO. "Distance learning has come of age, and is of immeasurable benefit to musicians worldwide who would otherwise not have the opportunity to receive college credit from such a prestigious organization, and also gain experience on the SONAR production environment," added Hendershott.
"Cakewalk is providing a wonderful opportunity for our continuing education students," states Debbie Cavalier, Dean of Continuing Education for Berklee's online extension school, Berkleemusic.com. "Armed with SONAR, Berkleemusic students in the Desktop Music Production courses will be able to apply the production skills they are learning each week to their own music projects."
Berkleemusic.com's innovative online music education certificate programs enable students nationwide and worldwide to gain industry-recognized qualifications from Berklee College of Music, earn credits that can supplement music programs offered by other institutions, and secure financial aid to help pay for their education. The online extension school provides continuing education opportunities that are independent of the undergraduate program offered at Berklee College of Music's Boston campus.
