Cakewalk® and Roland Systems Group Announce REAC Recording Technology for Cakewalk SONAR and Roland’s RSS Digital Snake System

Anaheim, CA, NAMM 2007 (Booth 6800), (January 18, 2007) — Cakewalk, in partnership with Roland Systems Group, is announcing REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Communication) Recording Technology for SONAR. This new technology enables the recording of 40 channels of 24-bit / 96 kHz audio from a split of the RSS S-4000 Digital Snake system by a direct connection to a PC’s Gigabit Ethernet port. A beta program is also being introduced that will allow registered program participants to work with the RSS Digital Snake and SONAR to provide feedback for the final product release.

“Many applications call for cost effective but professional quality recordings of live performances with a high channel count.” states Mr. Kim Nunney, President of Roland Systems Group U.S. “This exciting new REAC Recording Technology, introduced by Cakewalk, enables high channel count recording without additional audio input interfaces and provides an all-digital recording path directly from the S-4000s’ high quality XR-1 microphone preamps to Cakewalk SONAR.”

“We are very excited to be partnering with Roland in developing the SONAR REAC Recording Technology,” commented Greg Hendershott, Founder and CEO of Cakewalk. “SONAR has been enabling composers and engineers in studios to produce professional quality recordings for years. With this new technology, Cakewalk is extending the same capabilities to engineers using the Digital Snake System,” added Hendershott.

REAC is the audio transport protocol developed by Roland to meet the Pro-Audio market’s need for a point-to-point 24-bit/ 96 kHz, low latency digital audio transport for live sound use and commercial applications. The REAC protocol is capable of transmitting 40 channels of 24-bit / 96 kHz audio over inexpensive Cat5e cable and can be easily split using standard gigabit switches or the RSS S-4000-SP making it easy and very cost effective to have lossless all-digital splits of the stage audio for FOH, monitor, broadcast, and recording locations.

The beta version of REAC Recording Technology for SONAR being made available to program participants is part of a complete REAC recording solution from Cakewalk to be introduced in the second quarter of 2007. Those interested in participating in the beta program should visit the following URL on the Roland Systems Group U.S. web site to apply: http://www.rolandsystemsgroup.com/REACbeta.
