This is usually caused by audio driver configuration problems. We recommend checking out the suggested configuration settings for your device by using our Audio Hardware Guide.

If your interface isn't listed, try switching the driver mode to either "MME (32-bit)" or "ASIO" in Edit > Preferences > Audio - Playback and Recording (in legacy products this is found under Options > Audio > Advanced).
